Find Out The Secret 137 Smart Oakland and Wayne County Parents Are Using To Teach Their Children Self-Esteem, Self-Discipline and Dozens More “Character Skills”
(All while giving them a ton of fun!)
This amazing strategy is simple, effective, nearly effortless and just might be the big “Breakthrough” you’ve been looking for, for your child….
Dear Fellow Parent,
This is your goal, right? We all want our kids to be equipped with life skills and value skills that will be at their side from now until the day they die. But have you ever found yourself:
- -Concerned about your child’s level of self-control?
- -Wishing your child had greater ability to listen… to focus?
- -Wondering, painfully, if your son or daughter has the self-esteem it takes to be successful?
If you have, you are not alone. In the next few pages I’m going to introduce you to a system that has not only worked for hundreds of local parents – but for millions of families world wide. Now if what I’m saying is true (which I’m going to prove irrefutably, it is) wouldn’t it be worth 10 or 15 minutes of your time to read this letter?
Of course it would be… you’d be glued to this thing like purple to Barney. So lock yourself away in your bedroom, ignore the desperate screams for Yu-Gi-Oh, Dora, Bob the Builder, and those crazy shoes that have wheels on the bottom, (the inventor of whom must not have children of his own) -- and give me a few minutes of your devoted attention.
Not only am I going to prove that this system works, I’m going to give you a chance to try it for FREE, at no cost to you, and actually at my own personal expense – so that you can see exactly how I make good on all my stunning claims. In fact, I’m going to offer you over $200 worth of books, back newsletters, and services for absolutely nada, zip, zero – nothing. That’s how confident I am in my program!
My name is Dan Vigil, and I founded, own, and work everyday of my life at, “Dan Vigil’s Academy of Taekwondo” at the corner of 7 Mile and Northville Road. The martial arts program at my school is nothing like you have seen or heard of before!
In fact, I’m not sure it’s even fair to call it a “Martial Arts Program.” It’s more like a “Character Development and Success Skills Program” that uses Martial Arts (Tae Kwon Do and Karate) as a delivery system. I am on an unstoppable mission to help the children of my community achieve academic success, improve their self esteem, develop their self discipline, and help them live a happy, healthy, confident lifestyle – now and forever.
Why is "Dan Vigil’s Academy of Taekwondo” light years beyond any other activity that attempts to teach these qualities to young people?
The Dan Vigil’s Academy of Taekwondo Story
By: Master Daniel B. Vigil
I have always been a guy who wanted to make a contribution, and to have a powerful, positive affect on the people around me. I started in Martial Arts as a young kid – about age 8, and even at that young age I knew that I wanted to have my own martial arts school someday. Some fifteen years later, I admit, I fell off track.
I was “working” for one of my coaches – teaching class, answering phones, keeping up my own training. I was really loving what I was doing, but unfortunately it didn’t pay the bills. My coaches never really ran very big schools, and even though I was at the school 8-10 hours a day, I was only being paid $400 a month. Between working at the school and attending Eastern Michigan University, I didn’t have time to work a full time job anywhere else. Finally I said, “Enough is enough.”
I was dating a girl, Jessica, who would later become my wife. It’s hard to take out a pretty lady (with a CMU Masters degree) on a $100 a week paycheck. Well, hard to take her out and still pay the rent, anyhow. So I reluctantly quit my job at the school, and started my own brick paving company.
I ran it for three years, and the company did well. At the same time Jessica was working as a pediatric physical therapist for Detroit Children’s Hospital. You know… the hospital that helps injured, disabled and diseased children function out in the big, wide world.
But conversations on date night seemed to go something like this:
Me: “So what did you do at work today, dear?”
Jessica: “Oh, I treated a kid who…” and she would launch into a story about some sweet little boy or girl, the things they liked to do, and the games they liked to play. She’d talk about how they were hit by a car, or caught in the crossfire of gang shootings, or were born with a disability… and it would end with something like, “and so today I helped them learn to walk again.” I would sit mesmerized – completely captured by her stories of compassion and contribution.
And then, inevitably
Jessica: “So what did you do today?”
Me: “Oh… well… I built some guy a patio.”
Now don’t get me wrong… there is something to be said for running an upstanding company that provides a valuable service like brick paving. But, for a guy that wanted to make a contribution to his community and who wanted to influence the lives of young people… I was way off base. And hearing my dear Jessica’s tear jerking stories of modern day heroism, the contrast was too much for me to bear.
Finally, at Jessica’s encouragement, I knew it was time to go for it. To “lay it on the line,” as they say. It was time to open what would become “Dan Vigil’s Academy of Taekwondo.”
After about 18 years of martial arts study I knew I had the physical skill. I had been a very successful competitor. I had been state champion 9 times, won national tournaments at the collegiate level, and all totaled had earned over 80 gold medals from tournaments all over the world. Now this probably makes me a highly qualified kicker of butt – but doesn’t in any way qualify me to teach discipline and confidence to a six year old. I’ll get to why I’m qualified to do that in a minute. Hang with me!
I was also already a pretty good teacher. I’d been teaching kids martial arts for over ten years. Still, I knew there was more I could do. My coaches used a pretty brutal method. Their classes, unlike mine, were demoralizing, humiliating, and involved literal beatings. Their objective was to exclude as many people as possible from their programs. It was a “sink or swim,” “Do or die,” “If you can’t take the heat – get out of the kitchen,” kind of environment.
Meanwhile they directed a ton of criticism at teachers who claimed to instruct in martial arts, but taught horrible technique. Teachers who, when pressed on their lack of skill, would say, “It’s all about developing the kid’s confidence anyways, they probably won’t ever have to kick anyone.”
I knew there had to be a way to do both – to teach championship level martial arts AND life long character skills. There had to be a way to create a school that was focused on inclusion, where shy kids, overweight kids, undisciplined and disobedient kids, could all come together in a positive atmosphere and learn to overcome their personal weaknesses through the martial arts. AND learn effective, high level, self defense skills at the same time.
So I got to work! I already had the martial arts down – down better than anyone else in the state 9 years in a row. I knew that Martial Arts can teach kids to have a positive outlook, good manners, fantastic listening skills, laser-sharp focus and attention, good memory, unshakeable self discipline, and unstoppable confidence. I just had to figure out how to lock down the things that would most effectively bring out these empowering qualities in my students.
So I went on a quest – one that has lead me through literally dozens of parenting, child psyche and education books and courses. One that has taken me from Boston Mass to Denver Colorado to see such experts as Stephen Oliver, Keith Hafner, Y.K Kim, Steve White, and Mike Dolpies – all Martial Arts masters who specialize in teaching Character through Martial Arts. I have studied these principles daily for years and spent over $30,000.00 in courses to help me teach YOUR child to be happy, healthy and confident. Plus I endured over 20 years of grueling training to be able to teach effective martial arts technique along side the character skills. (After all if we’re using martial arts as our delivery system for character, that delivery system ought to be the best it can be, right?)

Dozens of testimonials like this one prove that my life has not been in vain:
"The Change In My Child Was Noticeable From The First Week"
My daughter started at Dan Vigils Academy of Tae Kwon Do about a year ago. The change in my child was noticeable from the first week. She became excited about a place where it was OK, even encouraged, for her to be loud! A place where she was rewarded with a stripe on her belt for learning a new skill! On my side I was excited about the "YES MAAM" I was hearing at home, as well as the newfound self-confidence she was gaining. Over the year my child has earned FOUR belts, two trophies, and has invited everyone she can think of to come and see her test. These are the outward things, what I see inward is a child growing with a healthy respect for others and herself. I see a child who can be proud of her accomplishments. I see a child who has gained enough self confidence to be in her schools talent show! These are the things that Dan Vigils Academy of Tae Kwon Do are teaching my child. And oh yeah, she has learned Tae Kwon Do too!
Tina Pierzynski, Mom of Grace Pierzynski, Farrand PTA
So what did all the years of blood, sweat, tears and research lead me to, and what does it mean for YOU and YOUR child?
Years ago martial artists were the defenders of their community. They learned to kick, block and punch in order to fight off oppressive invaders and protect their homeland. Well, truthfully it’s no different for children today. No, they aren’t fighting off a pack of crazy ninjas bent on destruction – but they are facing inward opponents that are every bit as real and dangerous. Please understand that the greatest opponent your child will ever face is within themselves. Right now your child is struggling with thoughts like:
- I’m not as smart as John.
- I don’t get what my teacher is saying.
- I wish I were as [strong, smart, pretty, tall] as Alley.
- Why does Paul keep giving me a bad time?
- How come I can’t be as popular as Jessica?
Fellow Parent, I assure you that these opponents are every bit as real and dangerous as a guy with a knife in a dark alley – perhaps more so. Getting them to conquer these inner demons is, perhaps, the greatest challenge of today’s parent. But how can you help when your child has a tough time even telling you that she’s wrestling with this self doubt?
Believe me, I understand the desperation that comes with trying to teach vital “character skills” to your children. It’s not easy. We are trying our best to lay proper foundations for our children, but it’s a hard road to walk alone. If you do not succeed, a whole host of more serious problems may await you. Let me assure you that nipping any negative behaviors in the bud may be the best opportunity you will have at keeping your kid out of real trouble.
You may feel like you have tried everything...
- Reading all kinds of “how to” parenting books
- Subscribing to “Parenting” magazines
- Asking school administrators for help
- Asking everyone you know for advice
- Consulting with child therapists
- You may even be thinking of medication...
But have you just resigned yourself to HOPE? Are you hoping that your child will develop the success skills necessary for a life that does more than just “get by”? - No way! You want your child to have a life that thrives!
Of course friend, you need more than just hope. I think you know that, and that’s why you have read this much. Now let me explain 10 of the ways that my Academy is going to give you exactly what you need.

Positive Role Models: The biggest ‘asset’ of “Dan Vigil’s Academy of Taekwondo?” Easy. The teachers. Now, I’ll tell you up front. They are not like the teachers you’ve seen in the Martial Art movies. Are they “Tough Guys?” Yes. But what you will notice (and so will your child)…is that they are “Nice Guys.” They have been hand selected…not just because they are great Martial Artists. They have been chosen because they are wonderful people…and have a great love of helping others benefit from the Martial Arts! All of our teachers were once students at “Dan Vigil’s Academy of Taekwondo” or trained under the same coaches as Master Vigil, and undergo continuing education on how to be a great teacher.. They care about each student individually and are totally committed to helping your child reach his or her potential.
-
Physical Fitness: It’s hard to feel good about yourself when you are out of shape physically…or when your athletic skills have not been fully developed. Our belief is that, regardless of how athletic somebody seems to be…there is an athlete inside all of us. When a student feels their physical skills skyrocket…it’s not long before their self-image follows suit!
-
A High Energy, Exciting Environment: Many kids have grown accustomed to virtual activities (video games, television, internet). Participating in an exciting, high energy environment, focused on an actual activity, will give your child a very real sense of achievement!
-
Regular Incentives for Effort and Achievement: The belt system of Martial Arts (your child will earn a new belt every three months: white, yellow, orange, green, etc.), regular positive feedback, and recognition of accomplishment, incentives for improvement, applause, smiles, and high-fives will systematically lead your child into the “Yes, I Can!” attitude you’ve always wanted for him or her.
-
The “Message of the Week”: Regular exposure, through our “Message of the Week,” to systematic instruction, accompanied by exercises in the lessons of respect, discipline, focus, persistence, courage, and confidence. (Most of the “Dan Vigil’s Academy of Taekwondo” parents name this as their favorite part of the program!)
-
A Proven System of Skill Development: No fancy theories or hard to understand concepts here. Master Vigil and Instructor Tyler are experts in teaching the actual SKILLS of listening and focus. Hint: We’ll be teaching these to your child in the very first week!
-
A Series of Positively Constructed Challenges that will build your child’s confidence. You will be delighted as you see your children confidently move outside their comfort zone. As the weeks go by, you will smile with pride as your son or daughter moves from challenge to challenge…their confidence soaring at each new accomplishment!
-
An Atmosphere of Respect: You watch with satisfaction as your children learn to give respect and to earn respect. Most importantly, they learn the essential lessons of Self-Respect!
-
Order and Structure: Even though the atmosphere is friendly and supportive, Taekwondo is not “play time.” You will be delighted to see how your children develop focus and persistence in our orderly, and structured environment.
-
A Friendship Based Environment: If you are expecting the old harsh, authoritarian, military style Martial Art training…you are going to be sadly disappointed. When you visit us, you will find a friendly, supportive environment. Most of our long time students tell us that all their best friends are here! That atmosphere of friendship
Seems almost too good to be true, doesn’t it? Well, you won’t have to go just on my say so (though a lot of other people say so too.) In just a moment, I’m going to give you a chance to “test drive” this system totally free of charge and obligation.
Let me introduce you to a few smart local parents who will tell you how great my system is at teaching these skills to children, and you won’t just have to take my word for it:
(Get ready for some proof!)
“The Staff Members Are Awesome”
My son has been involved with the Academy of Tae Kwon Do for about 4 months. It has been a wonderful experience. He has grown in so many ways. He is more confident, he is physically stronger and he is happier. The staff members are awesome. They have fun with the kids and they love what they do. They are great role models. We feel very lucky to be a part of this organization!
Catherine Weir, Mom of Collin Weir
“I Am Extremely Satisfied With The Results That We Have Gained By Attending The Academy”
“I am extremely satisfied with the results that we have gained by attending the Academy not only for my nephew but for my husband and I as well. We have lost weight as well as gained stamina and flexibility. I recommend the Academy to any parent who is having trouble with their child in school. Mr. Vigil demands and expects respect all the while teaching the same.”
Michelle Collins, Mom/Aunt of Kyle Malender
“These Values (Are) Expressed In A Caring And Personal Manner”
“We expected structure and discipline in class that we hoped would carry over into Sean’s overall behavior. We have not been disappointed. We were pleased to see that these values were impressed in a caring, personal manner.”
Eileen Aljuni, Mom of Sean Aljuni
“(Master Vigil) Has A Long History Of Working With Kids And It Definitely Shows Through His Instruction In Class”
My wife and I wanted to involve our kids in Taekwondo because of the many benefits it offers for physical and mental growth.. I had prior experience in martial arts and knew what type of school I wanted to find for my family and especially for my kids.
The Academy of Taekwondo was exactly what we where looking for. Instructor Vigil is excellent with the kids and is able to bring out the best in their abilities in a safe and fun environment. He has a long history of working with kids and it definitely shows through his instruction in class.
Mike Wissman, Dad of Cole and Clay, Ford Pilot
“After One Trial Lesson, I Was Impressed”
“I thought (The Academy of Taekwondo) was a strict, military style self defense school – nothing a 7 year old girl needed. After one trial lesson, I was impressed. You get aerobic training, flexibility training, (stretching,) focus and concentration, balance and coordination all rolled into one sport. After being at the school for awhile, I also realized the benefits of self confidence and self esteem and responsibility. And let’s throw in respect, too, for others. It just has a little bit of everything a child needs. Being a member of the Academy of Taekwondo makes Katie feel like she has to set an example for others.”
Vicki Webster, Mom of Katie Webster

But, here is my confession...
As attractive as my free, no obligation trial offer is, my experience tells me that only 7% of people receiving it will respond. While that is okay with me from a “business” standpoint, it still bothers me personally. You see, I know how much the families I work with benefit from our program. I read their letters, I talk to them on the phone, I see them personally in class every day; and dozens of them tell me, “He’s doing so much better in school, Master Vigil! He’s so much more confident, disciplined and self assured. Thank You!”
Because of this I just hate the thought of someone not joining my school because of some error or omission in my explanation. That’s why I held a special brainstorming session with a group of parents, just to figure out why you might say, “No,” to my free trial offer. After several hours we could only come up with four possible concerns you might raise.
“But Dan, this won’t work for me because my child has no interest whatsoever in Martial Arts!”
Let me ask you this, does your child like positive feedback? Compliments? Fun, exciting games? Nice friends? Cool Adults (that are terrific role models too?) How ‘bout rewards for accomplishment? Trophies and medals? The admiration of peers and adults alike? Well if you answered yes to any one of these, then I assure you they will like classes at “Dan Vigil’s Academy of Taekwondo.”
Let’s be honest here – there is no other program like mine out there, your 4,9,12(whatever age) year old has no clue what things are going to be like at my school! Do you give up when your kid looks at a bowl of peas and says, “I don’t like them,” without even having him take a taste? No way!
I’d have to say this is probably the #1 excuse that keeps parents out of my school. Once, while at a seminar in Golden Colorado, I heard marketing guru Dan Kennedy address a group of martial arts school owners of my mindset. He said something I’ll never forget, “Right now, nationally, 33% of children will be enrolled in a Tutor Time, Sylvan Learning center, or some other tutoring service. 7% will be enrolled in Martial Arts classes. If people really knew what people like you do, you would see 50% or more kids enrolled in Martial Arts – it’s way more effective for them than tutoring.”
My program is a part of your child’s education not their recreation. When parents enroll kids in tutoring, school, or church they aren’t giving an option. You have to go to school every day, to church on Sunday, and to see Master Vigil two times a week.
But don’t let me fool you! None of the kids at my school say, “Awww man! Not Tae Kwon Do again…”
No way! They are racing out the door, belt in hand, like a California mud slide on a rainy day, screaming “Yahooo!”
“But Dan, this won’t work for me because my child is so painfully shy that she won’t set foot out on your mat!”
Patience! We have a systematic way to get your shy kid adjusted to our building, our instructors and eventually out onto the floor where they will be kicking, punching, and throwing their hand in the air to answer questions in no time! All it takes is a little patience, and lots and lots of positive encouragement.
Here is a story of one such kid:
“She Is Clearly More Confident”
“I am impressed with Grace’s improved concentration, respect and increased physical fitness. She is clearly more confident than she was before starting Tae Kwon Do.”
Kris Warmann, Ford Engineer/Father of Grace Warmann
"But Dan, this won't work for me because my child has 0 attention span! He's totally wild and unruly!"
Hey, if this is going through your head, you need to stop reading right now, pick up the phone, and dial (248) 349-6900. Because believe me! You needed me three years ago, not tomorrow or next week! Trust me, my staff and I are experts with this particular group. We have even been doctor-recommended to work with children who suffer from ADD, ADHD, ODD, autism, and Asperger syndrome. (Shoot, if your kid doesn't have a true barrier to their behavior, we'll have him or her straightened out so fast you won't have time to say, "I don't know if it will work for my kid.")
Consider this mother's tear-jerking letter of recommendation:
April 21, 2007
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter to share the outstanding experiences we've encountered since meeting Daniel Vigil. My son has ADHD, Anxiety, and borderline Asperger's Syndrome. In an attempt to provide him with an enriching and positive activity, I began to research martial arts and spoke with several martial arts specialists. I learned that martial arts could be very beneficial for children with a variety of challenges. After speaking with Master Vigil at great length, asking countless questions, and explaining his history, I was eager to enroll him in the Academy of Taekwondo. I'd like to share with you why we made this important decision.
My son's impulsiveness and unpredictable behavior had been an issue. Academically, he excelled and had always been very bright but his school work worsened. Getting along with some of his classmates was becoming more difficult. By January, his self-esteem suffered and he became anxious and sad. Obviously, this affected all areas of his life. He had played soccer for about 5 years but was slowly becoming more frustrated at practices and games. He no longer enjoyed playing soccer. My husband and I discussed this with him and we all decided that soccer was no longer the right sport for him.
He wanted to try martial arts and showed interest in taekwondo. Master Vigil wanted to meet him and spend time with him, one-on-one, with a private lesson before he started classes with other children. What a wonderful way to introduce himself and make him feel comfortable and welcome in his school! It was a pleasure meeting Master Vigil and seeing my son so drawn towards him within the first few minutes of speaking with him. He loved every moment that he spent with Master Vigil that day. He received his new uniform and couldn't wait until his first class with the other students. I felt relieved because we were so sincerely welcomed and I saw a safe, well-controlled learning environment for him. He thrived in the positive atmosphere that Master Vigil set for his students. He was treated no differently than others which made him feel very comfortable. He had confidence, showed initiative, made new friends, and improved his schoolwork. My son was so happy!
Master Vigil and his instructors interact with the students using many strategies and always do so in a very respectful and caring manner. There is a great balance of work and fun in the methods Master Vigil and his staff use to teach. The gym is set up very simply so as to avoid distractions. Master Vigil clearly demonstrates and explains what he is teaching and students also learn through interaction with their classmates, which helps them improve their social skills and self-esteem as they help each other work on a new technique, for example. He uses language and non-verbal communication that is easy to understand. His patience makes the students feel at ease and his encouragement fosters a feeling of independence. Because he has a strong will to be the best at what he does, Master Vigil sets an example of some of the principles he encourages his students to follow: courtesy, self-control, respect and perseverance. His teaching style is challenging and with high expectations, but at the same time is very fun, kind, and supportive.
In summary, I have no hesitation in recommending Master Vigil as a mentor and role-model for children, especially children with specific learning needs. The Academy of Taekwondo provides children with an enriching experience that benefits their physical health and mental well-being.
Sincerely,
Maria S. Angott
